2 The first evidence of humans in Dubai were found to be around 3000BC. At this time the area was inhabited by nomadic cattle herders. Islam was introduced into the area after the 7 th century. The area was sustained for a thousand years due to pearl diving and fishing. In 1966, oil was discovered in Dubai, which changed the country beyond recognition and led to Dubai becoming the vibrant, modern, business-centred city-state it is today.

8  Dubai is extraordinary. It has major differences to Melbourne. Dubai is a mega city. There are quite a few differences between these two mega- cities, David and Goliath. Although Melbourne has an estimated 4.077 million people and Dubai’s population is averaged at 1.5 million people Dubai is a much busier city! Dubai is much smaller than Melbourne only being 712 km square and Melbourne being 7673 km square! The positions are very different too! Melbourne is located in the southern hemisphere and Dubai is located in the northern hemisphere just north of the equator! So the temperatures in Dubai are much hotter than we get here in Melbourne! They range from 24-26 in Jan-Feb and the hottest months are June-April where the temperature reaches 39-41. February is the wettest month averaging 31 millilitres of rain. From June-October averages 0.2 millilitres. This is so much more different to Melbourne where there can be flash flooding out of no-where! Also known as four seasons in a day! I would rather live in Melbourne because it is much more similar to me. I have lived here all of my life and to move to Dubai would be like moving to another world! Although it would be luxury to live there it would eventually get boring. Melbourne is perfect for me despite its 4 seasons in a day weather.
