Butterflies and insects have these body parts: Six jointed legs 3 body parts A pair of antennae Compound eyes An exoskeleton The three main body parts of a butterfly are: the head thorax (the chest) abdomen (the tail end) Butterflies are Insects

Antennae The antennae are used to smell food. Eyes The eyes contain many tiny lenses. Proboscis The proboscis is a long mouth used to drink nectar.

Four wings and six legs. Wings are covered with bright powdery scales that fall off with every flight and fade in the sun. Butterflies smell with their feet. This area contains little holes called spiracles that allow the butterfly to breathe.

Spherical, ridged and white. The larva is banded with white/cream, black, and yellow stripes. It has 2 pairs of sensory tentacles, one pair on the head and another pair near the end of the abdomen. The monarch remains in its pupa for about 10 to 14 days. The green cylindrical pupa becomes transparent a day before the adult emerges. Bright orange with black wing veins. The hind wings are very rounded, and they are lighter in color than the forewings. The body is black with white spots. Egg Pupa Caterpillar Butterfly
