Nelson Mandela In the book No Turning Back, the setting took place in the early 90’s. In this time period, white people were considered more important than black people and there was a lot of racism. There was a man named Nelson Mandela who opposed the racism and wanted equal rights for black people. Unfortunately, he was sent to jail for several years. When he got out of prison, he still wanted equal rights. A few years later he became president of his country.
