8 Learning Pathways A learning pathway defines a set of ESRI training courses, both Instructor-led and Virtual Campus, that focus on a particular aspect of GIS. Within a learning pathway, participants can choose some courses based on their own interests. A pathway certificate is awarded upon completion.

9 Learning Pathways Fundamentals of ArcGIS Desktop Learning Pathway — This pathway is designed for users who are new to GIS and ArcGIS Desktop. GIS Data Production and Editing Learning Pathway — This pathway is designed for GIS technicians, specialists, and others responsible for creating and editing spatial data. GIS Analysis Learning Pathway — This pathway is designed for GIS analysts and others performing vector and raster analysis. Geodatabase Management Learning Pathway — This pathway is designed for GIS end-users, managers and administrators who are responsible for using, designing, implementing, or administering a multiuser geodatabase.

10 What is GIS? GIS stands for Geographic Information Systems GIS is a mapping technology that allows the user to create and interact with a variety of maps and data sources. GIS integrates databases with georeferenced spatial data.

11 BUT REALLY What is GIS? A DATA MANAGEMENT SYSTEM – It integrates data from multiple data sources – It integrates many data formats – It integrates tabular, spatial, and graphic information Main Entry: in·te·grate Pronunciation: \ ˈ in-tə- ˌ grāt\ Function: verb Inflected Form(s): in·te·grat·ed; in·te·grat·ing Etymology: Latin integratus, past participle of integrare, from integr-, integer Date: circa 1586 transitive verb 1 : to form, coordinate, or blend into a functioning or unified whole : uniteunite 2 : to find the integral of (as a function or equation)integral 3 a : to unite with something else b : to incorporate into a larger unit 4 a : to end the segregation of and bring into equal membership in society or an organization b : desegregate intransitive verbdesegregate
