ISD-MASP-S05026 Copyright © Yokogawa Electric Corporation May 2005 Page 2 What is PKS R300? Honeywell introduced a new version of the PKS system as R300 in late April 2005. Like R200 series, R300 is the new main stream product of their control system. (Replacement system for TPS.) This R300 has new Honeywell design hardware for controller and I/O. In addition to new hardware, some new software packages are introduced. This information is our quick study of R300. We welcome any information regarding R300.

Vertical mounting as with the CS RIO, saving space and increasing heat radiation Same control function and applications as HPM Some IO modules are still not supported in C300 and they need to use both C300 and C200 if such modules are required. Continued stable supply of the Rockwell-designed C200 controller and Series A I/O Note –New Honeywell-made firewall for controllers (Control Firewall) to enhance FTE ’ s security Separate security component required unlike Vnet/IP which incorporates security function into the network design and protocol Note: Rockwell is expected to discontinue the process logic (= C200) soon.

ISD-MASP-S05026 Copyright © Yokogawa Electric Corporation May 2005 Page 4 Executive Summary 2 Software –Newly developed operation assistance software Precisely the same concept and function as Exapilot which was released on the market five years ago with more than 500 licenses sold Will become a strong supporter to create the AOA market –PC backup and restoration software No better than commercially available software (PowerQuest Drive Image) CENTUM outperforms Honeywell by far which builders update engineering data of all components in a unified manner and can restore the data easily through offline downloading Does PKS have difficulty managing engineering data in a unified manner? (CENTUM backup is very simple. Honeywell PKS server uses SQL and with console having configuration functionality, database management is a big headache internally. Engineer who needs to do backup must be very familiar with the backup procedure. Otherwise, database mismatch will always happen)

Cables are connected directly to terminals on I/O boards without using FTA. Space efficiency is also excellent when the system uses “ only ” the C300 and Series C I/O. Redundant I/O requires twice the vertical space When single- and redundant-structured modules coexist in a system, terminal boards of different sizes must be used. Connection flexibility is low for its barrier connection, DI/O relay connection, and I/O and terminal blocks which cannot be separated from each other The number of FF I/O modules per controller and the number of FF segments per module have caught up with FIO

ISD-MASP-S05026 Copyright © Yokogawa Electric Corporation May 2005 Page 7 Comparison with CENTUM Previous OEM controllers and I/O-related components replaced with Honeywell-original products, in a bid to reinforce R210 so that it can serve TPS-class projects. Obvious Scan3000-like factors are removed The first attempt to enhance FF compatibility. PRM- oriented differentiation will be required rather than difficult hardware-based one (They are catching up CENTUM FF hardware advantages.) The FTE hardware and protocol are not equipped with special security function. The co-existence with general-purpose TCP/IP communication may affect the control communication (In general, PPKS does not recommend and encourage co-existence of 3 rd party communication devices in the control communication FTE. They use a switch to separate 2 FTE networks)

ISD-MASP-S05026 Copyright © Yokogawa Electric Corporation May 2005 Page 8 Honeywell Weaknesses (-> Killer Questions) 1 Even though R300 ’ s I/O is vertically structured, is the space factor better than the Series A I/O? How about compared to FIO? How about IS application? Yokogawa designed FIO for CS 3000 in addition to the vertical-structured RIO with good reason. FIO is superior than R300 for its mounting efficiency and connection flexibility R300 can nominally incorporate 36 I/O modules on each side of the cabinet (compared to 40 I/O modules on one side of FIO cabinet). Is R300’s space factor only better than C200’s Series A I/O?

ISD-MASP-S05026 Copyright © Yokogawa Electric Corporation May 2005 Page 9 Honeywell Weaknesses (-> Killer Questions) 2 R300 ’ s CPU and I/O share the same power unit and this is not suited to distribute risk. Is the system reliability increased with R300? Can its primitive controller redundancy using two controller units, redundant legacy PM I/O, and client/server configuration secure long-term reliability? (Some I/O modules are only supported by C200, resulting in more than one controller, more spare parts requirements, complex engineering, etc.)
