COE and children in migration – The most vulnerable group of children in Europe today – Total lack of care and security – Limited access to justice, education and health – they are at risk of helplessness, discrimination, ill-treatment and exploitation, including child labour, sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

COE and children in migration – How can we really ensure the best interest principles as regards children in migration? Child friendly proceedures Holistic approach Informed by the UN CRC, ECHR and the Social Charter case law Demonstrate and document the BIC Multidisciplinary – Are the professionals receiving these children and their families really trained to understand what is expected of them? – Is the legislation appropriate – Is the present practice really best interest determined? – A Crucial role for the child protection authorities
