The farms in Virginia were being decimated and Lee needed farms to produce food for his army A2: Lee wants to show the North that the war is NOT worth fighting. Lee wants Northern citizens to become upset with Lincoln and other politicians that support the war … and if he wins a big victory in PA, he may influence the North to decide the war is NOT worth fighting and give up.
