Charge: Your task is to develop core ideas/projects for an $8-10M ($1.25-1.5M per year for 5 years) NIH Center proposal. –Catheter-based Ultrasound with Microbubbles Specifically, you should consider the following questions
3
Briefly describe the core projects your group would design for the Center. Please dream big. Intravascular Ultrasound with Targeted Microbubbles Microbubble enhanced ultrasound is normally done only in regions where ultrasound imaging can be done Project Focus: Use intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) with focused beam profile to burst microbubbles in areas of the body where ultrasonic imaging is not possible Introduce drug-laden microbubbles for targeted drug delivery Diagnose delivery amount using IVUS-based targeted tissue palpitation
4
Identify the key faculty from from both campuses to involve in these projects. Include their strengths. (UNMC on next slide) UNL FacultyStrengths Joe Turner (ultrasonic modeling) Greg Bashford (ultrasonic imaging) George Gogos (fluid flow) Jiashi Yang (externally-guided bubbles/particles) Mehrdad Negahban (in-vivo tissue characterization) Li Tan (development of guidable particle) Mehmet Can Vuran (wireless particle movement) Sensor design expert
5
Identify the key faculty from from both campuses to involve in these projects. Include their strengths. UNMC Faculty Strengths Jason MacTaggart (vascular surgery) Feng Xie (ultrasound/microbubbles) David Holtzclaw (microfluidics) Surgical Oncologist Center for Nanomedicine Drug Delivery
6
Identify external academic partners & expertise or equipment resources/strengths that are needed to accomplish these projects.
7
List potential industry/foundation partners (think broadly) and what they would contribute. Include reasons why they would be interested.
8
Describe how you would link the Center to other campus resources.
