1 May run: Beamline Configuration. Some preliminary thoughts. K.Tilley, 24/04/08
2
2 -Pre-commissioning : - full magnet system checks again Q1-3 - dry checks on solenoid especially polarity. - personally I would like to check remote control (with Amps not pps) & polarity finally in all magnets again.
3
3 What we have achieved already: - Target ‘proven’ - Dipole beamline ‘proven’. - Protons on target ‘estimated’ for 50mV. - May Beamline General idea:- -Continue with - outstanding work from previous shifts & - some control/optics commissioning. -Given O( stick with protons initially for S/N - implies keep same magnet polarities. - implies don’t use proton absorber in May.

4 Outline steps:- Building from 3 docs:- Feb15th ProtonRunPlan, March 27th Run Ideas, April 4th Shift plan Use “D1=400A,D2=170A basic setting”. - Production versus dip / beamloss. (D1=D2 only) - Vertical target/beamline misalignment measurement trial. - set at optically aligned if possible. - Q1,2,3 individually. - choice to set at triplet design value. - Solenoid –with or without Q1-3 on. - Q4,5,6 - Q7,8,9 - Setup whole beamline with alignment.
5
5 Some obvious needs:- - New proton optic using solenoid. [probably scaling of standard pion/muon line] - Clarity over whether TOF0 or not will be in place for downstream optics. Can BM1 & TOF0 share space? - Really need (BC/BM) ie. IC/FNAL monitors giving reliable beamsize/position information for May. - To move BM2 to after Q9 for Q7,8,9 running. Desirable:-- Very desirable to have TTL model of beamline – [or someone who knows how to interpret/run misalignments in G4BL] - estimate of position of target in absolute terms.
