Screen Shot Tutorial by Jan Personette How to copy your beautiful snowflakes after they fall from the sky.

Screen shot of your flake 6273699

Screen Shots In the shot to the left, see the top row of keys. Print screen is what you want. Locate the screen you want to copy. Hit the print screen key.

Locate your Paint program. This is the icon for Paint. Click on that to open an new window.

Screen shot for MS Office.

Find Paint Paint can also be found by going to Accessories in All Programs.

Find the screen you want to copy.

Now what? You have that screen on your clipboard ready to go to Paint.

What next? You will see a yellow star and next to that there is a box with dotted lines. Click on that box. A white space will appear to the right. Learn to use the right click part of your mouse here on the white area. A menu will appear. Click paste and your screen shot will appear.

Menu appears. Select paste and your screen shot should appear. You can move that around by left clicking on the image and moving it. You can edit part of the image by moving it to the edge of the white space. When your image is in place, move the image a little to show some of the white space. Click on the white space. You can no longer move the image.

Cut or edit your image. To cut away what you don’t want, right click and a menu appears. Put your cursor where you want to start cutting. A corner works well. A small circle with a + appears. Hold down your left button on your mouse and move it. Dotted lines will appear and you will see that the line moves as you move your mouse. Select the portion you want to cut. Release your mouse and a bold + appears.

Right click and a menu appears and select cut. The image disappears. Continue to cut until your image is left on the screen. When you have the image that you want to paste somewhere else, put the cursor close to any corner of the image you want to copy and move the cursor. You will see the dotted lines appear. What is inside the dotted lines will be copied. Right click your mouse and select copy. Then move your image to another document such as MS Word. When you are at that document, Cut or edit continued.

Right click and select paste. Sometimes in Word, you might have to hit enter before your image appears. Just a glitch, I suppose. You can put these images on greeting cards, posters etc using MS Publisher, Word Perfect or Word. Note the dotted lines around the image selected.

Photo options You can see that the screen shot has the little circles on the photo to the left. In the lower right you will see two + signs together. This option allows you to crop the image. Notice the set of lines to the right.

Photo option toolbar. Using the lines option you can put a border around the image. Don’t be afraid to ‘play’ with these options. That way you learn to use them. At least run your mouse over them to see what they are.

You have learned something new! You have learned to use Paint and capture an image from another source. Photos of webpages can be copied and used in your publications. Be sure not to use copyrighted things without proper credit. Have fun making files of your snowflakes. Jan Personette.
