WG1 minutes for Driebergen Workshop 1- Exchange of plant material. –Timescale: 2004 ->2008 –Objectives: To have access to new, different, original material (genetic resources) from abroad. To benefit from multi-site, multi-condition evaluation + different skills and experiences of european scientists. To breed for stability across regions or for specific local adaptation. –No founding possibility to carry out special common trials => integrate material from other teams into our own designs. –Principle: exchange sheet available on the web site -> each participant interested download, complete the form and send it back to I Goldringer or put it automatically on the web when it will be working -> database with possibilities + progress in exchanging material.

- Finalize a proceeding on the use of markers for breeding for organic farming (Driebergen workshop). –Timescedule: 31st January: sending contributions; published in spring 2005 –Oral presentations (if possible including discussion) ; posters abstracts; general conclusions/recommendations ?; SUSVAR description. -Amount of copies: about 400 - As a pdf file on the web site.

- Improve knowledge on crop ideotype / priority traits. –Timescedule: 2005->2008 –Which criteria may be and/or need to be integrated in a « conventional » breeding scheme to improve the adaptation of varieties to OF (balance of demand/market/cost) –Develop criteria simple/easy to measure on a large scale in collaboration with WG3, 4, 5 + 6. –Input from Driebergen workshop on the definition of crop ideotypes –Sub-group(s) working on « practical » breeding using a core-set of varieties in different conditions: for wheat resp. Franziska.

- GxExM interactions: breeding for stability, wide vs specific adaptation. –Timescedule: start at the general meeting in July 2005 -> 2008 –Propose a topic for next meeting. –Consider the different scales for adaptation: from wide adaptation to OF (common criteria) … to very specific local adaptation. –Open-discussion: how to integrate the developments from other groups ? Review paper: identify different items (resp. Edith)

- Mixtures: breeding, composition, evaluation –Timescedule: 2005->2008 –Sub-group resp.: Hanne –Collaboration with WG4 + 5. 6- Participatory breeding and populations: variety structure + breeding method (recurrent, mass, pedigree,…) –Timescedule: 2005->2008 –Sub-group: resp: Dominique –Collaboration with WG6 => common workshop in 2006. 7- Sub-group on molecular markers: make a large set of marker data available on different populations
