Mixtures Describing Matter
2
Heterogeneous Mixtures: You can see the different parts that make up the mixture (EG) Salads, pizza, soil
3
Mixtures: Is made up of two or more substances that are not chemically combined
4
Each substance in a mixture keeps its individual properties.
5
The parts of the mixture are not combined in a set ratio
6
(EG) Soil: If you look at soil through a magnifier, you will find particles of sand, clay, and decaying plants, and if you squeeze the soil you might even get water. Different soils are made up of different amounts of sand, clay, and water
7
Homogeneous Mixtures Homogeneous mixtures: The substances are evenly mixed, so you cannot see the different parts
8
Solution: Is a homogeneous mixture (EG) Sugar Water: You can’t see the sugar that dissolves into the water
9
A solution does not have to be just a liquid (EG) Air, Brass brass copper and zinc brass Brass
10
Separating Solutions A compound can be difficult to separate into elements, but a mixture is usually easy to separate into its components
