Education Letter to the Editor

Question You are Chris Wong, a Form Four student. You are writing an article to the “ letter to the editor ” in a local newspaper about the choice among Arts, Science and Commercial streams. You have written part of the article and given it to your brother to proofread. He has corrected some of the mistakes and put some correction symbols to help you.

Expand your ideas First Paragraph: Purpose: I am writing to comment on the views about choices among Arts, Science and Commercial streams. Opinion: –What do you think is the most important when students opt for their studies in Form Four? –Why is it so important to think carefully before making your decision?

Second paragraph As every Form Three student has to choose a stream to focus on, this is a topic worth discussing. However, –what is the scenario/ situation you can see at your school? –Are your schoolmates choosing their subjects after careful consideration? –Are they making a decision that they will regret for the rest of their lives?

Beginning Science stream guarantees more options for both study and work in future. However, I think there are most important factors to consider besides just jobs and studies. However, Arts and Commercial streams can provide a lot of opportunities for further studies and work nowadays. However, I think there are a lot of options for Arts students, for example, they can be reporters or editors. So, this is not a dead end.

Consider all factors A guarantee to studies and work –A bright prospect/ future –Success in the future Your capacity/ talents (Are you good at the subject?) Parental expectation Peer influence Interest in the subject, –Is more motivated to spend time on the subject –Has more readiness to work hard

Plus & Minus What would happen if you had to study a subject that you have no interest in? It would be very boring, frustrating, time-consuming / a waste of my time
