5 th graders are required 300 minutes 6 th -8 th graders are required 675 minutes CPS has required that every school to teach Comprehensive Health A minimum of 2 staff members per school need to be certified and certification is good for 4 years. ONLY those certified can teach the lessons. Illinois has also passed Public Act 98-0441 requires schools that teach sex education in any of grades 6 through 12 to include instruction in both abstinence and contraception, and to teach with materials that are evidence-based and medically accurate.

Students have received a principal approved letter in the beginning of the year. Students will also receive one additional notification before CPS curriculum is taught Parents also received information regarding the field trip to Robert Crown for the 5 th and 6 th graders. Parents are encouraged to come and talk to Mr. Zagorski and Mrs. Pappas with any questions or concerns. Parents have the option of opting their child out.

All information is age appropriate for each grade level All information is medically approved and medically accurate Lessons are taught in an unbiased manner and focuses on statistics and facts. Supports all students regardless of gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression Emphasis that the parents are the number one educators

“Knowledge is power” This comprehensive curriculum allows students to make smart and knowledgeable choices…. Mentally, physically, and emotionally. Students have responded well to the curriculum and have learned a lot. (Exit slips, journal entries) We have had positive experiences and have the best interest of the students in mind for every lesson.
