The fashions of the 17th century greatly reflected that of the French. It is during this time that French designers began to take root

-Puritans believe that man is corrupted from birth and it is his duty to redeem for sins. No one begins with a clean slate. - Believe that God gives the right to individuals to spread His word, this being the driving wedge between Puritans and Pilgrims - Those chosen ones were liable to commit sin but would not be denied a place in heaven

Sought to 'Purify' the church from its Catholic tendencies The Puritan Church maintained a monopoly-like right to interpretation of spectral evidence, meaning the church could interpret different situations the way they saw fit.

Puritans believed in witches (this was the time of the Salem Witch Trials) Massachusetts Bay Colony was a man's world. Women did not participate in town meetings and were excluded from decision making in the church
