1. NUNAVIK

2. Nunavik Nunavik is a region that makes up most of Northern Quebec. Most people there are Inuit and speak Inuktitut. There are about 11 630 inhabitants in this region. There are fourteen villages in the Nunavik region

4. This is a very newly self-determined region. It was granted its own regional government in 2008, although it still remains a part of the province of Quebec.

6. Lifestyle The people that live in Nunavik, as well as other arctic regions, must live in a very different way than us here in Calgary. Since the North is so cold and dry, the Nunavimmiut must create stratesgies for specialized hunting and fishing. There is very little biodiversity in the Arctic!

7. Industry Nunavik has a few different main industries for its citizens to work in. Since the recent exploration of the region by mining companies, young people living there now are able to train for jobs such as mining, prospecting, maintaining and operating heavy equipment, carpentry, and administration.

8. Other industries in Nunavik include tourism, and the exportation of traditional carvings.

9. What will happen? In my opinion, Nunavik will indeed flourish. It is now embracing things like tourism and mining, and so its economy will do nothing but improve. I do however worry that the traditional way of life may be lost or become scarce. Nunavik will have many exciting opportunities ahead of it.
