$358.38 billion contributed in 2014 - an increase of 5.4% from 2013. 72% from individuals, 15% from foundations, 5% from corporations, and 8% from bequests. Every source increased their giving from 2013 to 2014. Largest percentage of donations received by religious organizations (32%) and education (15%). Where’s the $$$$

According to The Foundation Center ( http://foundationcenter.org /), there are over 86,000 foundations in the U.S. with $715 billion in assets, giving over $54 billion in 2014. http://foundationcenter.org / Independent/Private/Family: includes most of the nation’s largest foundations. Generally established by individual donors or donor families. (The Evjue Foundation, Goodman Foundation) Operating: primarily run their own programs, but some also make grants. (St. Mary’s Foundation) Corporate: established by businesses ranging from major corporations to family-owned shops; legally separate entities. (CUNA Mutual Foundation) Community: raises funds from the public. Engage in grant making primarily within a defined geographic area. (Madison Community Foundation) Foundation Giving

Foundations award grants to organizations that will help the Foundation reach its long-term goals. Know your own organization.
