Record notes During lecture, record the main ideas and concepts on the right side of the page. This is the notes column. Rephrase the information in your own words before writing it down. Skip one line between ideas and several lines between topics. Avoid writing in complete sentences; use symbols and abbreviations instead.
4
Cornell Note Taking Guide Review and Clarify As soon after class as possible, review the notes in the right column and clarify any ambiguous information. Compare the information with the book and/or other students' notes. Then pull the main ideas, concepts, terms, places, dates, and people from the right column and record them in the left-hand recall column.
5
Cornell Note Taking Guide Summarize Prepare a summary of the lecture material and record it at the end of the notes. The summary may be in sentences or short phrases. It should include only the main ideas from the lecture.
6
Vocabulary He picked out a pair of white socks. She bought two new pairs of flip flops. He had a coupon for a complementary hamburger. Ensure is a diet supplement.
7
Definition Complementary angles are two angles whose measures add up to 90° A B C D
8
Definition Supplementary angles are two angles whose measures add up to 180° RS T U
9
Complementary or Supplementary? Angles can be complementary or supplementary regardless of their location. PR 41°49° 41°139° PS
10
Definition Two angles,, form a linear pair if and only if A, B, and C are collinear and D is not on. ABC D
11
Name all the linear pairs F G H K J
12
find the measures of the angles that are complementary and supplementary to Complementary 90°− 64° = 26° Supplementary 180°− 64° = 116°
13
What is the difference? Supplementary because it adds to 180° Linear pair because both angles are on the same line. AND
14
Linear Pair Postulate The angles in a linear pair are supplementary
15
Theorems Supplements of congruent angles (or of the same angle) are congruent. Complements of congruent angles (or of the same angle) are congruent.
16
What are angle pairs? Complementary angles, supplementary angles and linear pairs are angle pairs. What is the difference between complementary angles, supplementary angles and linear pairs? Complementary angles add up to 90°. Supplementary angles add up to 180°. Linear pairs are two angles on the same line that add up to 180°.
