“Heavy forces must be more strategically deployable and more agile with a smaller logistical footprint, and light forces must be more lethal, survivable and tactically mobile. Achieving this paradigm will require innovative thinking about structure, modernization efforts and spending.” Driving Force - The Chief of Staff, Army 23 June 1999

1.Autonomous Systems 2.Secure and Robust Information Systems 3.Networked Information Processing CISD Thrust Areas Research and develop methods to facilitate the creation of networked information systems over band limited mobile, wireless networks. This includes processing of sensor information, multi-hop mobile, wireless communication networks, fusing and interpreting data, and processing and presenting data for decision making. Information includes sensor data, and real-time voice, text, graphics, and video. The focus is on theory and fundamental limits of the problems as well as implementable solutions. ISP Program Research Areas: –Interpretation of sensor data, including multiple sensor modalities. –Analysis, fusion, reduction, and representation of data for decision making. –Data compression and coding, network and quality of service aware.
