5  The variable or factor that may change as a result of the manipulated variable. These are your results.  How fast the plants grow. Responding Variable

6  Factors or conditions that must remain the same so that the results of the experiment are valid.  Type of soil  Amount of soil  The amount of fertilizer Controlling Variable
