Warm Up 8/24/15 1.Find the expected value for egg production. 2. Find the mean and standard deviation of the data as well as the median and interquartile range. Egg Production n eggs345 Probability of n eggs 0.250.70.05 Year19941995199619971998 Precipitation (in.) 9.417.017.37.016.1 Year19992000200120022003 Precipitation (in.) 5.46.98.54.29.2

Warm Up 8/25/15 1. Determine if there are any outliers for the precipitation table above. 2. The stang zone wants to know whether they should carry Gatorade or Powerade. They carry Powerade for a month and record the results. They then switch out the Gatorade and record those results for a month. What type of data-gathering technique is used? Warm Up 8/27/14 1.For the set of data, find the range of values that are used to determine outliers. How does the outlier affect the mean? 13, 14, 65, 11, 15, 14, 14, 12, 13, 15, 14, 12 2. A researcher wants to test whether sound affects cognitive ability. He takes a focus group of 30 students and has 15 of them solve problems while in a quiet room and has 15 solve them while being interrupted by various sounds. Is this an observation or experiment? If an experiment, what is the conrol group and what is the treatment group?

Warm Up 8/28/15 7. 8. Jason and Jill are two students in Mr. White’s math class. On the last five quizzes, Jason scored an 80, 90, 95, 85, and 70. Jill scored a 70, 75, 90, 100, and 95. Find the mean and mean absolute deviation for each student. Jason’s Mean =_______Jill’s Mean =________ Jason’s MAD =_______Jill’s MAD =________ Randomly choose 50 people to eat at least one serving of soy a day, and 50 people not to, and monitor their cholesterol levels. If the researcher for the above experiment wanted to compare the results, what would the null hypothesis be? What would he do with the data to decide whether to accept or reject the null hypothesis?
