8.  What does it really mean?  How can we help make it happen?

9. K-12 texts have become easier; college texts have not. College textbooks, workplace texts, and newspapers are more demanding than materials used in 12 th grade. Instruction with HS texts is heavily scaffolded while students are expected to read independently in college. The reading load in college is substantially more than what students typically experience in lower grades.
