2 TAX-AIDE HOW DID WE DO? ● Our volunteers prepared 52,063 federal returns. Placed 2 nd of 71 sub-states ● Helped 90,660 people, #1 in nation ● Saved taxpayers over $13 million in preparer fees ● Enriched AZ economy by $37.9 million ● Total EITC $7.3 million Instructor Workshop – 2014 2

4 TAX-AIDE What’s New? ● We can now prepare Federal & AZ Tax Returns for ALL Legally Married Couples! ● AZ will be participating in a Pilot program to prepare ‘other’ state returns along with Florida and Texas. 5 TAX-AIDE Best Practice Reminder: Bank Verification Process ● Counselors should ask any taxpayer who wants their refund direct deposited into an account to provide proof of their account in the form of a pre-printed check showing the bank routing and account number ● Taxpayers who do not have a check should be encouraged to go to their bank to obtain a check or letter of account verification ● OR Instructor Workshop – 2014 5

6 TAX-AIDE Best Practice Reminder: Bank Verification Process (Cont) ● If the taxpayer is unable or unwilling to produce account verification, then it is acceptable to put the non-verified account information on the return, provided that the counselor 1) advises the taxpayer that without verification the account information provided will be put on the return at their own risk, such that if the funds do not arrive in their account that there will be no way to trace or replace the funds and 2) have the taxpayer write their initials next to the account information on the printed return. The initials will serve as indication that they have been warned that the account information has not been verified in the event that the funds are mis-directed as a result of the information provided by the taxpayer Instructor Workshop – 2014 6
