Leadership Development Presented by Eva De La Rosa WMU/Women’s Ministry Specialist, CSBC
2
What is Leadership Development? Leadership development refers to any activity that enhances the quality of leadership within an individual or organization.
3
Leadership Development… is foundational to the success of the ministry much like a blueprint is to the construction of a building--- foundational to its future
4
Leadership Development… The future of any ministry team or ministry project is highly dependent on the development of those who are in positions of influence Leadership is influence Effective leadership is essential to the sustainability of the ministry/project
5
FIVE KEYS to Effective Leadership Hold the vision Build your people Do the work Stand for something and Pass the mantle
6
Hold the Vision Building a ministry team takes skill, work, and resources. But those are details. More than anything else, building a ministry team—really, building anything—is an act of faith. As a leader, you must to hold fast to the big picture, to keep seeing in your mind’s eye, with crystal clarity, where it is you’re going— and where you are leading others to go!
7
Build your People Every person is a wealth of talents, skills, and potential value. Good ministry teams look to recruit competent volunteers/staff. Great ministry teams recruit people and then commit to bring out their latent greatness through continual investment in them...leadership development.
8
Do the work Great leaders don’t expect anyone else to do anything they haven’t done themselves. Lead by example!
9
Stand for Something Leadership is not something you can put on and take off, like a set of clothes. People will read you, consciously or unconsciously—the you behind the words. What you have to give, you offer least of all through what you say; in greater part through what you do; but in greatest part through who you are.
10
Stand for Something Competence counts—but character matters more. Character, though, is a precious gem, and anyone who possesses it is worth a great deal to the world around him. You can lead only as far as you grow.
11
Pass the Mantle Leaders hold a vision. Leaders care about their people. Leaders get their hands dirty and their boots muddy, do the work and make the tough decisions. And leaders stand for something.
12
True Leadership… …. isn’t about any of those things. You can hold the biggest vision, care about all your people, do all the work, and stand for something until the end of days — it’s still you, you, you-------that’s not true leadership. Leadership is helping a person move from where they are to where God has deigned them to be.
13
Pass the Mantle Here is the heart of the contradiction that is great leadership: great leadership isn’t a place you arrive, it is a place into which you disappear…. You develop other leaders and pass the mantle… Leadership Development is the key to sustained ministry!
14
Leadership Development The Leaders’ job: “to equip the saints for the work of the ministry” Ephesians 4:12-16
15
Part of developing leaders is providing them with resources to enable them to deliver their greatest level of skill. CSBC WMU/WM is proud to present an up-to-date training program that will equip, train, and mobilize you for leadership! Leadership Development
