2 How do I become a PHS student? Louisiana Educational Assessment Program (LEAP) Students must score Basic or above in either English or math and Approaching Basic or above in the other subject on the LEAP to advance to the next grade.

3 Once I am a PHS student, what is expected of me? Our goal is for you to become actively involved in both the academic and extra-curricular programs. Join clubs. Attend sporting events. Attend our drama and musical productions. Perform to the best of your ability academically. Bellwork, Homework, Studying Show exemplary behavior. Hallway movement, courteous, polite

5 Louisiana High School Graduation Requirements PHS Course Offerings (for students entering 9 th grade in August 2014 and beyond ) College CurriculumCareer Curriculum English – 4 units English I, I, III, and IV Math – 4 units Algebra I Geometry Algebra II Remaining unit shall come from the following: Financial Math, Math Essentials, Advanced Math – PreCalculus, Advanced Math – Functions and Statistics, Calculus Science – 4 units Biology Chemistry 2 units from the following: Agiscience II, Biology II, Chemistry II, Environmental Science, Physical Science, Physics, AP Physics I & II Social Studies – 4 units Civics American History World Geography World History Health – ½ unit Physical Education – 1 1/2 units Foreign Language – 2 units 2 units from the same foreign language Arts – 1 unit Fine Arts Survey; one unit of Art, Music, or Theatre; or Speech III & IV Elective – 3 units Total units = 24 ?

10 Honors Course Criteria A student must meet three of the five criteria yearly for the subject area requested. 1. Minimum overall GPA of 2.8 2. Minimum subject area average of 3.0 3. Teacher Recommendation 4. Student Self-evaluation 5. Score Mastery or Advanced on LEAP or EOC test in subject area

11 Course Selection Please be sure to read the description of the elective before choosing. Please choose wisely, because we do not change electives once the master schedule is made. If you ask for a class and receive it, you are expected to stay there for the entire length of the course. Some courses require that you get special approval. Special approval means that you must get the teacher granting permission to sign your schedule request form. For example, band requires that the PJHS band director signs.
