2 A Little About Mrs. Chambliss Anna Chambliss I received my Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Missouri. While teaching, I attended the University of Missouri- St. Louis and earned my Master’s in Elementary Education with a Specialty in Reading. My teaching goal is to create a classroom environment in which students feel safe to take risks. I hope to foster in each child a love of reading and an excitement for learning! I love living in the Florida Keys and feel blessed to be able to start a life here. In my free time, I love to stay active. I enjoy running and rollerblading. I also enjoy spending time on the water. I was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. I love Cardinal baseball! This is my first year teaching at Sigsbee, but I have six years of teaching experience. I taught both second and third grade while in St Louis.

3 A Little About Mrs. Sheehan Lisa Sheehan I received my Bachelor’s in Elementary Education from Washington State University. I am also certified to teach K-12 Art. My teaching goal is to create a classroom environment in which students are confident in their own learning. I hope each child will question what they are presented with; to promote life long learning through inquiry! I am an Army wife, and a mother of 3 children. My family and I miss snow, the mountains, and skiing. We are savoring our time here. I love staying active with my family. I enjoy running, fishing, sewing, painting, and paddle boarding. I was born and raised in Pullman, WA. I am a farm girl at heart!! This is my second year as a support teacher at Sigsbee, but I have four years of teaching experience. I taught third grade in Washington State and also North Carolina.

4 Curriculum Our curriculum is framed around the Florida adaption of the common core standards. We have designed units of study that correlate to these standards for 2 nd grade.

5 Reading is taught through a workshop model. Instruction will begin with a short mini- lesson. Students will have time for guided practice. While students are working at centers or independently, I will administer small group guided reading lessons. Students will also participate in Sustained Silent Reading time. Reading Workshop

6 The Writer’s Workshop Each day, writer’s workshop will begin with a short mini-lesson which focuses on a specific skill. The students will then be given the opportunity to practice this skill in their writing. During this time, I will confer with students or lead a small group.

9 Word Study Words Their Way word study program. During word study, the teacher works with students on word sorts, designed specifically for the student and based on assessments, helping them to understand and generalize spelling patterns. A list will be sent home every other Tuesday and the children will be expected to work with these words for two weeks. A list of activities your child can do with these words will be sent home once at the beginning of the year. Please use this for homework throughout the year. This sheet will also be available on the second grade webpage.

12 Homework Homework is assigned every Wednesday and is due back to school the following Tuesday. Always remember, students should be reading or listening to books for at least 20 minutes a day. Homework consists of Reading Log each night, Math pages, Tic-Tac-Toe chart, Book Reviews and Word Study.

13 Schedule Please remember to have your child wear tennis shoes during PE days! The Barracudas go to P.E. on Tuesdays and Fridays. Library day is Wednesday. Please help your child return their library books to school each week.

14 Snacks, Water, Etc. Bring a refillable water bottle to school. We will have class snacks this year. I will have sign ups for second semester after winter break. If sending in money with your child, please put it in a Ziploc bag or envelope and place it in the Home-School Connection folder. Make sure to write the child’s name, amount, and what it’s for. Please sign correspondence sheet nightly. Birthdays can be celebrated at school with a healthy birthday snack for the class. (fruit, yogurt, cheese and crackers)

15 Jupiter Jupiter is used to take attendance each day. Jupiter is also used to send emails and discipline referrals to parents. The 2 nd grade team may also use Jupiter Grades to keep track of homework completion.

17 Mystery Reader If you are interested in being a mystery reader, please sign up tonight. We will have our Mystery Reader come in on Fridays at 2:40. I will send out a reminder email the week before.
