General Safety

A student may not work in the shop unless the instructor is present. Absolutely no exceptions !!

Safety glasses must be worn at all times in the shop area.

All students must wear adequate foot protection when working in the shop.

Don’t wear a necklace or other jewelry when operating a machine.

Long hair should be pulled back when operating a machine.

Only 1 person is allowed in a machine safety zone.

One student operating a drill press at a time. A safe distance between machine operators. Students waiting their turn outside of the machine area. Teacher supervising the machine operation.

What’s the point of a first-aid kit if you have no supplies?

Keep your first-aid kit stocked with basic supplies. Aspirin obviously omitted!

Immediately report all injuries to your instructor. If you see a damaged tool or equipment, or you think something is not working properly, tell your instructor immediately. Before using equipment, obtain permission from your instructor. You must pass a machine safety test at 100% to use that machine. Point tools away from you. No horseplay or throwing in the classroom, lab or shop. Sharp tools are safer than dull tools. Do not distract students or the instructor when they are operating a machine. In case of emergency, turn off machine and follow instructor’s instructions.
