2 FACTS ABOUT DRINKING AND DRIVING *Drinking and Driving is when someone who is intoxicated is driving a vehicle. *Since September of 2001, over 140,000 men, women, and children have died in America as a result of drunk driving. *Alcohol related motor vehicle crashes kill someone every 31 minutes. *Passengers ages 14 years and younger, 66% were riding with an impaired drivers and died. 2

3 DANGERS  Drinking and driving have greater risks of car accidents, highways injuries and vehicular deaths.  DUI-Drinking Under the Influence 1.Fines, possible jail time, license suspension, community service &and mandatory attendance at “DUI School.”  DWI- Driving while intoxicated 1. Jail time, Alcohol treatment programs, and loss of drivers license. 3

4 HOW IT ENDANGERS OTHERS *Can affect the others on the road with you. *The passengers are also affected. *The chance of bumping into another vehicle or a pedestrian are really high. 4

5 AWARENESS Awareness Programs  Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD)  Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD)  Doctors for Designated Drivers (DFDD)  All Represent a community working to end Drunk Driving 5

8 HOW TO PREVENT IT  *Be responsible.  *Choose a designated driver.  *Call a taxi.  *Hide keys (from a drunk friend) 8

9 HOW TO DETECT A DRUNK DRIVER  Stopping without cause  Driving on wrong side of the road  Making wide turns  Almost striking an object or vehicle  Weaving, swerving, drifting, etc. 9

10 TEENAGERS * Teens are known to have the highest number of drunk driving cases. *Why you might ask? Statistics prove that the cause of teen alcohol intake is peer pressure. *Peer Pressure is when one observes others and uses their actions to change their attitude, values, or behaviors to the groups normal. 10
