2. One piece of evidence in the book that shows the time period is on page 183, paragraph 3, Christopher Paul Curtis writes, “Byron! What happened” He got some pants on and said, “A guy just came but and said somebody had dropped a bomb on joey’s church!” After researching this event I learned that on Sunday, 15th September, 1963, a white man was seen getting out of a white and turquoise Chevrolet car and placing a box under the steps of the Baptist church. Soon afterwards, at 10:22 a.m., a bomb exploded killing Denise McNair ( age 11), Addie Mae Collins ( age 14), Carole Robertson ( age 14) and Cynthia Wesley ( age 14). These four girls had been attending Sunday school classes at the church. Twenty-three other people were also hurt by the bomb. By researching this, I have realized that the authors information that the author was very accurate about this certain event. FIRST PIECE OF EVIDENCE

3. Another piece of evidence is on page 122 paragraph 4, Christopher P. Curtis wrote, We’d seen the pictures of a bunch of really mad white folks with twisted up faces screaming and giving dirty finger signs to some little Negro kids who were trying to go to school. Here are some things I researched about racism during the 1960s, There were separate bathrooms, separate restaurants, drinking fountains, and churches for black people. On the other hand, white people were treated much better. On buses white people were allowed to sit in the front while the blacks were forced to sit in the back. On page 134, paragraph 2, Christopher wrote, “Man, the only thing I’m scared of out here is some stupid a** rednecks catching us and hanging us all before sunrise just ‘cause we some Negros.” After researching, I found that in the 1960’s, white’s would hang blacks with ropes. They would refer to the hangings as lynching. This research shows that the author was accurate in his writing. Third Piece Of Evidence

5. The fourth piece of evidence is on page 6 paragraph 4. Christopher P. Curtis wrote, that is what we called the car, it was a 1948 Plymouth and was dull brown. After researching this car, I found out that this was a some sort popular car used in the time period around the 1960s. This research shows that the Curtis was accurate on his information and probably did a little research about the automobiles during this time. Fourth Piece Of Evidence

6. On page 64, paragraph 2, Christopher wrote, my gloves were brown leather with rabbit fur inside. I was one of the few kids in my grade with these! These will give me a reason to brag to Byron for sure! When I researched the gloves used in the 1960s,I learned that leather and animal fur were commonly used in children's gloves. I was actually surprised that the author was accurate in his description of the gloves, I thought he would be describing the gloves incorrectly. Fifth Piece Of Evidence

On page 110, paragraph 3, it says “now introducing, the Watsons family brand new true tone AB- 700 ultra glide!” I know that this is part of the time period because after researching the types of record players in the 1960s I learned that this was an expensive type of record player. I also learned that most people could only afford a less efficient record player. This research shows that the author was once again accurate on his details. Sixth Piece Of Evidence

8. On page 113, paragraph 4, is says Yackety Yak is my most favorite song in the world! When I was done researching this song I found out that this song was made in the 1960s and wasn’t to popular. 9. On page 148, paragraph 3, Christopher P. Curtis writes, I turn the TV on get watch Tooter Turtle. This is one of my favorite Saturday morning cartoons even though I constantly get called a little baby by Byron. After researching the TV show, I actually realized that Christopher was inaccurate on his information. Here is what is wrong, The book takes place 1963, Tooter Turtle was first aired on TV in 60 and was canceled in 1961. This research show that the author was actually wrong. Eighth Piece Of Evidence

On page 67, paragraph 1, Christopher writes, “Now class, this boy is a very special boy, He’s a Negro but reads like a pro.” After researching I found information saying people referred to black people as Negros in the 1960s. This is just like the discrimination in slides one through three. This once again shows that the author of the book was accurate on his information. Ninth Piece Of Evidence

11. On page 23, paragraph 2, Curtis wrote, “Kenny, you want to come watch Peter Potamus with me?” Once again, the author was wrong in his book. Peter Potamus was aired in 1996 and was canceled in 1997. The book took place in 1963. this is just like the authors mistake in slide eight. Tenth Piece Of Evidence
