Do Now  Please update your table of contents.  Please take the notes from the front cart, fold as a booklet, cut on the dotted lines, and place on pg  The due date for the annotated bibliography is being pushed to Monday. Page #TitleDate Heat Transfer05/01

Heat Scenes As we observe these scenes… What makes you think that heat is moving? Is there any evidence that you see showing heat transfer? Where does the heat come from and where does it go? What questions do you have about this situation?

Heat Scenes  What do all of the scenes have in common?  Where did the heat come from? Where did it go?

Conduction  Conduction is the transfer of heat as a result of direct contact of moving atoms.  Materials that allow heat to travel through them are called conductors; metals are usually good conductors of heat.  Materials that are poor conductors are called insulators.

Convection  Convection is the transfer of heat in a fluid as a result of the movement in the fluid itself.

Radiation  Radiation is the transfer of heat via electromagnetic waves through space.  Dull, black surfaces absorb heat from radiation; white, shiny surfaces reflect heat.

Forms of Heat Transfer

Inside your notes…  Your notes will also be a foldable you can use to study.  On the inside of each, write at least 3 examples of that form of heat transfer.  Think back to the heat scenes if you cannot think of anything new.
