Jeremiah 49  Concerning the Ammonites: (area of Jordan)  This is what the L ORD says:  “Has Israel no sons? Has Israel no heir? Why then has Molek [a] taken possession of Gad? Why do his people live in its towns?a

 2 But the days are coming,” declares the L ORD, “when I will sound the battle cry against Rabbah of the Ammonites; it will become a mound of ruins, and its surrounding villages will be set on fire. Then Israel will drive out those who drove her out,” says the L ORD.

 4 Why do you boast of your valleys, boast of your valleys so fruitful? Unfaithful Daughter Ammon, you trust in your riches and say, ‘Who will attack me?’ 5 I will bring terror on you from all those around you,” declares the Lord, the L ORD Almighty. “Every one of you will be driven away, and no one will gather the fugitives

Edom (means red, descendants of Essau)  17 “Edom will become an object of horror; all who pass by will be appalled and will scoff because of all its wounds. 18 As Sodom and Gomorrah were overthrown, along with their neighboring towns,” says the L ORD, “so no one will live there; no people will dwell in it.

 20 Therefore, hear what the L ORD has planned against Edom, what he has purposed against those who live in Teman: The young of the flock will be dragged away; their pasture will be appalled at their fate. 21 At the sound of their fall the earth will tremble; their cry will resound to the Red Sea. [ c c

 22 Look! An eagle will soar and swoop down, spreading its wings over Bozrah. In that day the hearts of Edom’s warriors will be like the heart of a woman in labor.

A Message About Damascus  23 Concerning Damascus:  “Hamath and Arpad are dismayed, for they have heard bad news. They are disheartened, troubled like (or on) the restless (troubled) sea.

 24 Damascus has become feeble, she has turned to flee and panic has gripped her; anguish and pain have seized her, pain like that of a woman in labor.  25 Why has the city of renown not been abandoned, the town in which I delight?  (reference to Jerusalem after Israel was back in the land in 1948)

 26 Surely, her young men will fall in the streets; all her soldiers will be silenced in that day,” declares the L ORD Almighty. 27 “I will set fire to the walls of Damascus; it will consume the fortresses of Ben-Hadad

Isaiah 17  A prophecy against Damascus:  “See, Damascus will no longer be a city but will become a heap of ruins. 2 The cities of Aroer will be deserted and left to flocks, which will lie down, with no one to make them afraid.

 9 In that day their strong cities, which they left because of the Israelites, will be like places abandoned to thickets and undergrowth. And all will be desolation.  12 Woe to the many nations that rage— they rage like the raging sea! Woe to the peoples who roar— they roar like the roaring of great waters!

 13 Although the peoples roar like the roar of surging waters, when he rebukes them they flee far away, driven before the wind like chaff on the hills, like tumbleweed before a gale. 14 In the evening, sudden terror! Before the morning, they are gone! This is the portion of those who loot us, the lot of those who plunder us.

A Message About Elam (western Iran)  34 This is the word of the L ORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning Elam, early in the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah:

 35 This is what the L ORD Almighty says:  “See, I will break the bow of Elam, the mainstay of their might. 36 I will bring against Elam the four winds from the four quarters of heaven; I will scatter them to the four winds, and there will not be a nation where Elam’s exiles do not go.

 37 I will shatter Elam before their foes, before those who want to kill them; I will bring disaster on them, even my fierce anger,” declares the L ORD. “I will pursue them with the sword until I have made an end of them. 38 I will set my throne in Elam and destroy her king and officials,” declares the L ORD.

Ezekiel 29  A Prophecy Against Egypt  Judgment on Pharaoh In the tenth year, in the tenth month on the twelfth day, the word of the L ORD came to me: 2 “Son of man, set your face against Pharaoh king of Egypt and prophesy against him and against all Egypt. 3 Speak to him and say: ‘This is what the Sovereign L ORD says:

 “‘I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, you great monster lying among your streams. You say, “The Nile belongs to me; I made it for myself.” 4 But I will put hooks in your jaws and make the fish of your streams stick to your scales. I will pull you out from among your streams, with all the fish sticking to your scales. 5 I will leave you in the desert, you and all the fish of your streams. You will fall on the open field and not be gathered or picked up. I will give you as food to the beasts of the earth and the birds of the sky.

 6 Then all who live in Egypt will know that I am the L ORD.  “‘You have been a staff of reed for the people of Israel. 7 When they grasped you with their hands, you splintered and you tore open their shoulders; when they leaned on you, you broke and their backs were wrenched. [a]a

 8 “‘Therefore this is what the Sovereign L ORD says: I will bring a sword against you and kill both man and beast. 9 Egypt will become a desolate wasteland. Then they will know that I am the L ORD.  “‘Because you said, “The Nile is mine; I made it,”

 10 therefore I am against you and against your streams, and I will make the land of Egypt a ruin and a desolate waste from Migdol to Aswan, as far as the border of Cush. [b] 11 The foot of neither man nor beast will pass through it; no one will live there for forty years. 12 I will make the land of Egypt desolate among devastated lands, and her cities will lie desolate forty years among ruined cities. And I will disperse the Egyptians among the nations and scatter them through the countries.b
