5 Girls Program Volunteers Make it Happen! 400 girls playing Parent Volunteers are always welcome – the more the merrier! A job for every skill level On field volunteers must be registered

6 Girl’s Program - Overview In-town – Grades 1 and 2 (Learn to Play Program) Founder’s Girls Lacrosse League – Grades 3 - 8 Grades 3/4 Grades 5/6 Grades 7/8

7 Grades 1 and 2 Learn to Play Program Last year Pilot Program a great success 8-week program to teach basic lacrosse techniques and FUNdamentals – Maximize “touches” – scoop, catch, throw, and shoot – Fun drills for basic game play, position play, and general lacrosse movement

8 Grades 1 and 2 Learn to Play Program Starts Saturday April 11 one “practice” per week on Saturdays at 10:00 Hunnewell fields Scrimmage opportunities towards end of season Registration stays open into season

9 Grades 3 - 8 Founder’s Girl’s Lacrosse League FGLL.com shared philosophy among member towns of teaching lacrosse fundamentals and good sportsmanship while having fun play against towns with well-established lacrosse programs

11 Girl’s Program Season Schedule Practice Begins – Weather Permitting! – Tues 3/24 for 5/6 and 7/8 – Tues 3/31 for 3/4 Games Begin: – Sunday March 29 for 5/6 and 7/8 – Sunday April 12 for 3/4 Sunday Holidays – No games Easter 4/5 – No games First Sunday of Vacation Week 4/19 – No games Memorial Day Sunday 5/24

12 Girl’s Program Season Schedule Age Group Practices Tues/Thurs 5:30-6:45 – 3/4 at WHS Stadium – 5/6 at Sprague – 7/8 at Sprague Games are played on Sundays – roughly half home/half away

13 Girl’s Program Balanced Teams Teams announced prior to first game Please do not ask for car pool/friend requests 3/4 – 8 teams of 10 - 12 5/6 – 5 teams of 18 - 22 7/8 – 5 teams of 18 - 22

14 Girl’s Program Equipment Girls Lacrosse Stick Goggles Mouthguard Cleats or Sneakers – nothing fancy is necessary $35-60 new – NOT a mini stick – NOT a boy’s stick – More important to choose one you will cut to fit - 2” beyond armpit

15 Girl’s Program Uniforms uniforms (pinney and skirt) are included in registration and will be passed out at practice Need Spandex under shorts! each player is issued a single WYL pinney which is to be worn to both practices and games 1/2 program will be issued pinney only Please dress appropriately for the weather!

17 Grades 3/4 “Small Ball” All about TOUCHES and FUN Small “BALANCED” teams (10-14 girls) games are played on a reduced size field 7 v. 7 all players take turns playing all positions Ability varies widely

18 Grades 5/6 and 7/8 Full Field 11 field players and 1 goalie 4 Attack, 4 Defense, 3 Middies All Players learn all positions, including goalie!

20 Girl’s Lacrosse Rules Safety First! – No Checking at 3/4 or 5/6 – 7/8 “modified checking” below shoulder – “Shooting Space” – “Dangerous Shot” “3 Pass Rule” at 3/4 and 5/6 – inclusive play “3 Second Rule” – Reward for good defense “Restraining Line” – offsides – 4 players behind line, at the 30 yard line

21 Girl’s Lacrosse Rules Infractions lead to free positions Including shots on goal, direct and indirect Yellow and Red Cards rare, but do exist FGLL and WYLC Zero Tolerance Policy for Fans Rules Presentation March 5th 6:30pm
