Managing Water Quality Data A GIS Project for CE394K by Dharhas Pothina
2
Outline Issues in Data Management Time Series Schema Building a GeoDatabase Conclusions Future Work
3
Managing Locations & Projects Ability to manage active sites and plan for new deployments Store data in a common georeferenced format
4
Variety of Data Formats and types of Observations
5
CUAHSI Database Schema
6
Requirements CUAHSI Flexible format Multiple Types of Observations / Units Data from multiple sources Georeferencing needed for analysis TWDB Limited set of observation types Only data collected in TWDB projects Georeferencing needed for analysis & management Ease of use
7
Ways to Store Time Series Data Atomic Multicolumn Atomic Very flexible Easily expandable for new data sources More complicated Multicolumn Matches equipment data formats Easier to implement
8
Conclusions CUAHSI Schema is well suited for storing data from differing sources. Needs some tweaks to store data useful for management of field equipment. Complicated to implement without support from database programmers
9
Building the GeoDatabase Decide locations for monitoring sites Manage equipment Plan field visits Easy import of field notes/data

Future Work Finish report on suitability of schema for TWDB Implement modified schema as a TWDB network database. Develop software to load/extract data from database Upload archived TWDB data into database Develop scripts to use data within ArcGIS for management Work out how to avoid duplicates when using merge in model builder Acknowledgements Jeff Horsburgh David Tarboton David Maidment
