What is a mammal? A mammal is an animal that possesses the listed characteristics: Hair Three middle ear bones Mammary glands Is warm-blooded Gives live birth to young

Mammals can live either on land or in the water. They have lungs that help them to breathe whether they are walking on land, or swimming in the water. Mammals have adapted their bodies to be able to live in different places. This means that a mammal most likely has flippers to swim, or legs to walk. Where do mammals live?

A mammal is classified as one because it has hair on its body. It also has three middle ear bones that help with hearing. A mammal is warm-blooded which means that it usually has a high body temperature. Another part of a mammal is that female mammals have mammary glands to help feed their young. Mammals also give live birth instead of laying eggs. What makes a mammal?

Examples of mammals Dolphin Monkey Tiger Sea lion Click on each of the animals to hear the sounds that they make.

Yes, humans are mammals. We are because we live on land like other land mammals. We also have hair all over our bodies to keep us warm. Our body temperature averages 98.6 degrees, meaning we are warm-blooded. Female humans also have mammary glands just like animals. Are humans mammals?

Land Mammals Mammals that live on land have two legs like humans, or four legs like a lion. Examples of land mammals include bears, dogs, and buffalo.

Sea Mammals Mammals that live in the sea have flippers or fins that help them swim. Examples of these are whales, walruses, and otters. Click on the whale to watch the video.
