LHC Insertions Upgrade Working Group (LIUWG) 20-03-2008 Equipment (compared to existing solution). Add energy extraction (DQR-DQS). Electrical feed box outside beam. Warm magnet or cold D1 magnet with surface powering assumed for current study. Limit Implantation studied around Pt1 in UJ14 (UJ16 symmetrical). Electrical feed box like DFBL used, DSL (Superconducting bus bar line) and QRLX (Cryogenic line extension) should be necessary. In future new DQR (not mechanical but semiconductor) should be studied (K. Dahlerup-Petersen/R. Denz). Implantation around Pt5 did not study but kept in mind. Study inputs and limitations

LHC Insertions Upgrade Working Group (LIUWG) 20-03-2008 Conclusion D1 cold: Increases the number of racks underground, necessary to find place for DFBL. Choice DFBM in main tunnel: More space in service cavern but in point 5 small tunnel to install DFBM. Not necessary to have cryogenic link and electrical link Not necessary to drill new hole in the shielding wall. New rack layout New cable routing required. New water pipe routing required. Audit of rack use required with all owners (optimize space?). New energy extraction Required for space constraints Checking metallic structure. Future integration studies More progress with P1 design (components and layout) before progressing with P5 studies
