1 The Labour market in Austria 8,3 MIO inhabitants 3,3 MIO employed workers Lowest unemployment rate in the EU and second lowest rate in the group of young people Reasons: - Economic situation -High level of education of Austrias labour force -Flexibility and Security -Strong active labour market policy focused to the group of young jobseekers -Dual vocational education and training -Training guarantee adressed to all PES registered persons from 15-24.

2 Dual vocational education and training -Essential pillar in the Austrian education system -Long tradition and walked by a strong social partnership -250 vocations, 40.000 enterprises, -Practical training in a company, theoretical and practical training in a public school -Duration 2 to 4 years -About 40% of all young people from 15 to 19 get their basic vocational training through an apprenticeship Main advantages: -Anytime up to date -Early contact with the working world -Easy transition from training to employment -Attractive for those who are practically oriented

3 Apprenticeship –related services of the PES -Placement of apprenticeship seekers in apprenticeships on the free market WITHOUT SUBSIDIES -Placement of apprenticeship seekers in apprenticeships on the free market WITH SUBSIDIES -Placement of apprenticeship seekers in subidised institutions.

4 Subsidised apprenticeship training in companies -Girls who are trained in a vocation with a low share (less than 40% ) of female apprentices -Disadvantaged youths -Youths participating in integrative vocational training -Youths in additional apprenticeships (terminated) -Maximum monthly alowance for companies:€ 400, € 755 for youth older than 19 years Effects: -In 2012: 12.716 youths finished subsidised aprenticeship in a private company -On the 92nd day after finishing 10.574 (83,2%) were in employment.

5 Apprenticeships in institutions -For those who didn`t get an apprenticeship on the free market -Private and non profit institutions -About 30 vocations -Goal: Transfer to apprenticeship training in a company -If not possible, participants finish training in the institution -Allowance for participants: € 240 in the first and second year, € 555 from the third year.

7 PES activities to attract young people -Visits by school classes to the PES premises -Other events on the PES premises -Events outside of the PES premises -Printed material NGO projects for youths far from the labourmarket -Outreach activities for youths with a migration background -Information on the PES webside, PR campaigns

8 Outreach activities for youths with a migration background - Good practice:Local office for youths, Vienna -Cooperation with youth centres regarding the transfer of information to visitors -Visits to mosques on Fridays after prayers in order to get into contact with parents and youths -Information events in mosques and culture clubs for youths and their parents in cooperation with the Adviory centre for migrants -Cooperation agreement with Turkish and Serbian newspapers regarding continuous reports on PES services for youths -DVD in different foreign languages containing films on training and job-related matters and PES services to be shown in clubs and private homes

9 Youth Coaching -Preventing the exclusion of young people from the end of compulsory schooling until pupils integration in a further education or training system or into the labour market -Avoiding dropping out of the education early -Comprehensive network of individual support services and offers to pupils if needed -Suitable basic conditions and offers for young people at risk -Involved organisations: Schools, training-firms, social workers, communities, supporting specialists, PES -Federal Social Welfare Office is responsible for realising
