What is the difference between walking in love and walking in Lust?

I. God wants us to walk in love ( 1-2)

A. We walk in love by imitating God.

"be imitators of God." The word imitators comes from mimetes, from which we get the English terms mimic and mime, someone who copies the characteristics of another.

Eugene Peterson's-The Message: "Watch what God does, and then you do it, like children who learn proper behavior from their parents."

Romans 8:29 tells us that the reason for our salvation is that we might be "conformed to the image of his Son."

Matthew 5:48 "be perfect, just as your Father in Heaven is perfect."

1 Peter 1:16 and Leviticus 11:44 "Be holy, for I am holy."

1 John 3:2 "We know that when he is revealed, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is."

Rom 5:5 "because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us."

II. Satan wants us to walk in lust (verses 3-7).

Proverbs 15:2 "The tongue of the wise uses knowledge rightly, but the mouth of fools pours forth foolishness."

Proverbs 17:22 "A merry heart does good, like medicine."

American Health magazine a good laugh is like "inner jogging." Yet we can have good humor that is appropriate.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 9 Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men[a] 10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Galatians 5:19-21 19 The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; 20 idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions 21 and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.

1 John 3:7-10 7 Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. 8 The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. 9 No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God.
