2
OBJECTIVE Students will interpret and understand topographic maps. Agenda: Do Now Topographic maps Vocabulary Power Wall Review Stations Closure: Dice Roll Exit Ticket
3
Homework 1.5 Topographic worksheet
4
What observations can you make about this picture?
5
TOPOGRAPHIC MAPS A two-dimensional way of showing a three-dimensional image of Earth’s elevations Topographic maps show elevation.
7
ELEVATION Elevation is how high something is above sea level.
8
TOPOGRAPHIC MAPS CONTOUR LINES lines drawn on a map connecting points of equal elevation (meaning if you physically followed a contour line, elevation would remain constant.)
9
Contour Line CONTOUR LINES
10
ACTIVITY #1
11
TOPOGRAPHIC MAPS CONTOUR INTERVAL How much the elevation increases
12
CONTOUR INTERVAL Subtract the lower elevation from the higher elevation.
13
What is the Contour Interval? (300-275) = 25 feet CONTOUR INTERVAL
14
TOPOGRAPHIC MAPS RELIEF Variations (difference) in elevation
15
TOPOGRAPHIC MAPS DIFFERENCE = RELIEF
16
CONTOUR INTERVAL Relief= higher elevation – lower elevation
17
Difference = RELIEF 325-250 = 75 RELIEF
18
ACTIVITY #2
19
SLOPE The incline or steepness of a hill.
20
Slope is Steep Slope is gentle
