1. Downloading and Installing Autodesk Inventor Professional 2015 This is a 4 step process 1.Register with the Autodesk Student Community 2.Downloading the software 3.Install the Software 4.Registering the software

2. Downloading and Installing Autodesk Inventor Professional 2016 Step 1 The link to the Autodesk Educational Community Website is http://www.autodesk.com/education/home This is an Autodesk website and is not connected with The Potters School. As a student, you are entitled to download and install a student version of the software for educational purposes. This means that as long as you are a student, even through college, not just TPS, you are allowed to use this software. This also means that you can download the latest version every year. Click on the link to open the web page or copy the link and paste it into the address bar of your browser. Please remember the username and password that you create for this site. We will be using it again later on in the year. http://www.autodesk.com/education/home

3. The link should take you to a page similar to this. Click where the blue arrow is to sign in. This will take you to a page where you can register as well. If you do not get this page, then copy this link into your browser http://www.autodesk.com/education/home

4. You will get a drop down menu. Click on the Educational Community Link

5. You will not need to create an account with Autodesk. Click where the blue arrow is that says “Signing up”

6. You will need to fill in all of this information and check the two boxes at the bottom. You will also need to record this username and password in a place you will not forget. You will need it again during the year. Your Autodesk ID does not have any character requirements. Your Password must be 8-12 characters and must contain at least 1 letter and 1 number. It cannot contain leading or trailing white space or "{" and "}" characters

7. You will need to fill in all of this information and check the two boxes at the bottom. You will also need to record this username and password in a place you will not forget. We will need it again during the year. Your Password must be 8-12 characters and must contain at least 1 letter and 1 number. It cannot contain leading or trailing white space or "{" and "}" characters. If it is not suitable, it will not let you go to the next step. If the username is not unique, it will ask you for a new one. It is not necessary to check this box. You must check this box. Once complete, click Next

8. There may be another page of information where you will need to identify the school. If so, keep filling in the information and the last step, when it ask for a school, there will be an option for Home Schooling. Choose this one.

9. Check your email and open the response from Autodesk The email may look a little different than this. There will be a link that you are to click on to confirm your registration. When you click on the link, it will open a page where you can login. Your user name will be here You can ignore this link located here!

10. Please keep your username and password and the security question and answer that you filled in. (If there was one) You can use this site as long as you are a student, not just a TPS student. This includes through college. Every year, you can download the latest version of the software or any of the other programs on this site. We will also be using this site later in the year as well.

11. Click on the Sign in link and choose Educational Community and enter the user ID and the password you just created.

12. Fill in the user ID and the password and click “Sign In”

13. Congratulations, you have now completed Step 1. For Step 2, we need to download the software Click on “Free Software “

14. You will probably see Inventor Professional on the first page, but if not click on All Products

15. If you have not done so, I suggest that you check your system requirements.

16. You should already be signed in. If not, you can do this now.

17. Choose the version of the software. We will be using 2016

18. Then choose the language If you do not know, go to Start and right click on My Computer and choose Properties. There you will see if you have a 32 bit or a 64 bit Operating System. Then click “Next”

19. The serial number and product key are important to registering your software. Please be sure to keep this information sent to you secure It is possible that Autodesk will run out of licenses. If that is the case, you will not get a serial number or product key. This usually happens at the beginning of the school year. But go ahead with the installation, as they will get one to you later. This is also one of the reason, I want you to get the software installed before the mad rush at the beginning of each school year.

20. You are now ready to start the Installation. If you click on the drop down arrow, you will have several options. I suggest “Download Now”. However, if you run into difficulties, you can try the other methods.

21. Above, I suggested using the “Download Now” option. Because this program is large and the download can take considerable time, it would probably be helpful to do it at a time when the internet in your home is not in a lot of demand. Even with a fast internet, it can take hours. There are several ways to download the program, so if it does not completely install the first time, try it again or try one of the other method below. If you click on the arrow beside the “Install Now”, there is a Browser Download option you can try and it may work better for you.

22. Click OK and the download will start

23. The download may take more than an hour. You can see the progress in the bar.

24. You should have finished the download process and the third step is to Install the software. If it does not start automatically, open Windows Explorer and browse to the folder where the software was saved. It will probably be in your download folder. There you will find the AutodeskDownloadManagerSetup.exe file. You can use the “Windows Key and E”, which is a keyboard shortcut to open the browser to your C drive. The following slide explains this.

25. Double click on the AutodeskDownloadManagerSetup.exe file to start the installation.

26. Select I Agree and click Install

27. This starts the Download Manager and shortly you should see another window to start the download of the software.

28. Click on the small icon to start the download process. This can take considerable time, possibly over an hour.

29. If the install does not start automatically, click on the “Install” button

30. Once the download is complete, you will get this splash screen that will bring up the install screen.

31. Once you see this, you can click on the “Install” to begin the installation setup.

32. To accept the license agreement, click on “I Agree” and then click the “Next” button

33. You will be using a “Stand Alone” installation. You will also need to enter the Serial Number and the Product Key. These two were pointed out earlier in the process. If you do not have them, you can go back to the download page and get them again. If you ignore this, you can install a 30 trial period and you can activate the product later within the 30 days.

34. You will get a green check mark indicating you have entered the correct information. In this window, my serial number was inserted and I have erased it from this picture.

35. Click the “Next” button to confirm the installation

36. You will need to install all 6 of the components. Make sure all is checked and then click “Install”

37. This process could take considerable time, possibly several hours or more, so you can leave and just let it run. Please make sure your computer is set to not go to sleep or hibernate.

38. If you get green checkmarks next to all of these features, then everything was installed correctly and you can skip the next slide. If not, go to the next slide for directions to fix the problems.

39. If all the features of the Inventor software did not load, then go back to the Download Manager on slide 25. There it shows the file was probably saved to your Download folder. Repeat this entire process. The Download Manager will recognize what has been installed and will reinstall the items that need to be installed. Usually, this is not necessary, but if you have difficulty with your internet dropping, then you have to keep doing this until everything is installed. One time, I had to run this 4 times. If you did not use the Download Manager, then go back to Slide 11, which will direct you back to the Autodesk website to download the program again. You can install this software on multiple computers!!!!

40. To make sure it works, I suggest going ahead and opening the software. There are several methods to open the program, which I show in the following slides

41. You can click on the Autodesk Inventor Professional 2016 icon from the desktop

42. Or you can go to the Start window, All Programs, Autodesk, Autodesk Inventor 2016 and then click on the Autodesk Inventor Professional 2016 icon.

43. If you have Windows 8 or 8.1, you can go to the Autodesk Inventor Professional 2016 App to open the program

44. You will have to click “I Agree” to accept the license agreement.

45. If you get a screen similar to this, then your software is not registered and the number in the circle tells you how many days you have left. You will need to click “Activate” and enter your serial number and product key. You can also click Try and the program will open and you can use it for 30 days or until you Activate the software license.

46. When Inventor opens, you should see a screen similar to this one. You can click on the “Start Working” to get into the program.

48. If your screen appears similar to this, then it appears that the software is installed correctly and you are ready for the beginning of the year. I am looking forward to a great year.

49. Congratulations, you have registered for the Autodesk Educational Center, downloaded and installed the software and finished the registering the software. So you should be ready for class to begin. I am looking forward to a great year.
