3 This song which was performed by a supergroup of musicians and recording artists became the fastest selling single in the history of the UK, raising over $10 million for emergency aid to Ethiopia. The success of this song encouraged Geldof to build a new project in 1985 with Midge Ure, Harvey Goldsmith and BandAid Trust called Live Aid. 5 Where are they now? While most of the musicians and artists involved in these projects continued their fame, the BandAid Trust have continued to raise funds from the sales of their 1984 single and Live Aid DVDs which is used to support other companies with projects in Ethiopia and other parts of Africa. These include organisations who assist the implementation of emergency public health, education and training, eye care, medical and farming. 6 Sadly famine claimed more than 1 million lives from 1984-1985 and while this has been the worst famine in Ethiopian history, famine and poverty is still a huge problem in Africa.
