Buttress roots The tallest trees have buttress roots to stop them toppling over.

Lianas Lianas are vine like plants they use large trees as a support to climb up to the sunlight.

The forest floor is very dark and damp. Only 2% of sunlight reaches the floor.

Some trees grow to over 40 metres in order to reach sunlight. These trees are called emergents.

Species like the FERN have adapted to life in the shade by growing large leaves which can catch a lot of sunlight.
