Invasive Weeds Photo from the field trip Maunalua Bay - This is a picture of ocean plants that we scooped into buckets from Maunalua Bay. These three alien algae species are invasive weeds because they kill Hawaiian native coral and destroy the food chain of marine life in the end. Their names are, from left to right, Hook Weed, Leather Mud Weed, and Gorilla Ogo. - They kill the coral like this. First, Hook weed hooks onto the coral and they block the sunlight and cover the coral. The coral can’t grow without sunlight. - The other two weeds-Leather Mud weed and Gorilla Ogo- float into the coral on a wave. They also cover the coral, blocking the sunlight and eventually killing the coral. - The lives of corals are crucial to the marine life because they provide great source of food and hiding places for the fish and other living creatures in the ocean.

GREEN HELP This picture is about me helping the environment. What we did was we took the invasive plants out which was “Pickle weeds” and we took it out with rake. Then we took shovels, dig the ground and planted “Aki Aki grass”. I learned from this experiment that we should take care of our earth and love the earth. ”

What next? If we keep polluting the nature, what will come next to our marine life and the environment? If we keep polluting the nature, what will come next to our marine life and the environment? The waste like plastic from people or factories to ocean and the fact that we don ’ t care if the invasive weeds take over the corals will destroy our marine nature. If you are concerned and act something out like picking up at least five invasive weeds a day, for example, that little work can make a big difference in the future. REFLECTION I think the field trips were fun and made me learn a lot of things. For example, I learned that we should keep the earth clean. I wish I could go to another field trip to learn MORE!
