1. Preparations for making bannock Get supplies Prepare kitchen

Supplies Ingredients: Flour (or whole-grain flour, optional) Salt Lard or oil Baking powder Water

Supplies Cast iron pan (at least 12” in diameter) Large mixing bowl and spoon Measuring spoons Clean Tea towel Knife (optional)

Prepare kitchen area Set oven to 450°F Lightly grease cast iron pan Put ingredients and utensils on counter

2. Mixing instructions In bowl: 3 c. flour ( or whole-grain flour) a few shakes of salt 1 tbsp. baking powder

Mixing Make a well and add: 1 tbsp. oil 1 c. water

Mixing From the middle: Stir slowly in a circle Add flour constantly Stop when fully mixed

3. Kneading Sprinkle flour on countertop Set dough on top Form a ball Flatten with hands Repeat ten times Not too much

4. Form the bannock Place dough into greased pan Flatten with hands Pierce with the spoon

5. Bake the bannock Place into pre-heated oven Set timer for 20 to 30 minutes (check often) Done when golden-brown

6. Serving the bannock Carefully place onto tea towel Tear off individual pieces Or, slice with knife can serve with butter Wrap leftover bannock in plastic Enjoy!
