Roald Dahl (1916-1990) Roald Dahl was born in Wales. His children’s novels have long enjoyed popularity and some have been made into films. While in school, Cadbury Chocolates (purchased by Kraft a few years ago) sent chocolate products for the pupils to test; the industrious Dahl was inspired by this and wrote Charlie and the Chocolate Factory because of it. His taut style and sense of the macabre were informed by his mother’s ability to tell stories. His own writing featured black humor and the frailties of human beings.
