Workshop Goals To develop a greater understanding of the nature of engineering To differentiate between science and engineering To develop engineering-focused activities for inclusion in the science classroom

Some General Stuff Dorm ◦ Check-in must be completed over lunch break today, if you have not already done so ◦ Lost key fee is $75!!!! Meals (all served in Student Union – please check workshop Wiki for specific local for each day) ◦ Breakfast: 7 – 8 am (on-campus participants) ◦ Lunch: 11:30 am – 12:30 pm (everyone) ◦ Supper: 5 – 6 pm (on-campus participants) ◦ Off-campus participants are welcome to breakfast and dinner Break locations will vary each day (see Wiki)Wiki ◦ Around 10 am and 3 pm but may vary

Internet access should be available in 1 st floor lounge of Abbott Hall and in most used classrooms as of Monday afternoon. Open wireless also available in Student Union Parking (must have permit displayed!) ◦ Lot south of Daktronics Hall recommended Using Wellness Center Facilities ◦ Open 5 am – 9 pm ◦ $8/day pass available ◦ Pay at desk on 1st floor by exercise equipment More General Stuff

What to do in the evening ◦ SDSU Art Museum open until 5 pm ◦ Downtown and area shopping and refreshments ◦ Movies (http://brookingstheatre.com)http://brookingstheatre.com ◦ Walk through McCrory Gardens new gorgeous Visitor’s Center! ◦ Thursday night - “Music on Main” - Nick’s Hamburger Shop ◦ Prairie Repertory Theatre production of “Steel Magnolia’s” in Brookings June 13-16 (call 688-6045 for tickets) ◦ Homework! Be on time ◦ Every morning begins at 8:30 am ◦ Every afternoon begins at 12:30 pm Always wear your name tag (stars denote groups) No absences ◦ Stipends: $90/day based on participation Turn in assignments by 5 pm, Tuesday, June 19 You are your school’s representative for the project ◦ Share information upon your return to school HAVE FUN! Workshop Requirements Daily homework related to engineering concepts and topics of the day Development of two lesson plans which incorporates both science and engineering activities. Aligned with the 5E instructional model. ◦ Details will be discussed during the last session of the day.
