Objectives At the end of this lesson the students will have further understanding of a complex sentence.

Fair Use Guidelines Certain Materials are included under the fair use exemption of the U.S. Copyright Law and have been prepared according to the educational fair use guidelines.

Definition Has one or more subordinate sentence combined with an independent sentence.

Use Subordinate Conjunctions Remember...after, although, as, because, before, if, since, so that, until, while, etc.

Punctuate Subordinate Conjunction at the beginning, put a comma!!!! Subordinate Conjunction in the middle, leave it alone!!!

Examples Because it is raining, we can not go outside. We can go swimming if it stops raining. While it is raining, we can play board games. I like playing Scrabble so that I can learn new words. Before we begin, let’s make some popcorn!
