Opening Assignment Without looking at your notes try to remember the following from our discussion and reading assignment yesterday. 1. What is eutrophication? 2. List 2 ways that eutrophication can affect an aquatic ecosystem. 3. What did the Clean Water Act of 1972 do to help the problem of eutrophication in the Hudson River?

Lab Procedure Each group of 3-4 students need to collect the following supplies to start your group experiment. 3 mason jars 1 - 100 ml beaker of 10% fertilizer solution 1 plastic pipette 2-3 microscope slides with covers (be careful these are glass) 1 – 500 ml container of pond water 1 straw to stir your pond water 1 washcloth to clean up after you pour your pond water into the mason jars You will each fill out a lab sheet so that you have the data to create your graph and form your conclusion when we are finished with the experiment in 2 weeks.
