3. This Working Model Functions Like any Robot Fixed Magnet DC Motor Build it and learn the basics of DC motor operation.

4. Layout and Drill Two Holes Use a Try Square and a Pencil Draw a line 1-1/2” from an edge Locate and mark 2 Holes 3” apart Drill the holes through the board Use a 3/64” bit

5. Wrap the Armature Make 4-6 Wraps Keep the coils tight Leave 1” + leads on each end Secure the coil with tape

6. Form the Commutator Carefully strip all the insulation off one end and only half the insulation off the other end.

7. Strip the Ends Correctly Strip one end like this And the other end like this

8. Straighten the Paper Clip Straighten one large paper clip and cut it into two equal lengths

9. Form the Brushes Create “Saddles” for the Armature leads to turn in. Cut the finished brushes to 3-5/8” overall length
