3 3 The Life of Paul Goble Continued Paul became fascinated with American Indians as a child, and he visited the American West in 1959 where he was able to meet Native Americans for the first time. The things he saw had a great influence on his life in the years to come. 4 4 The Life of Paul Goble Continued Paul moved to the United States in 1977 and became a citizen in 1984. He was adopted into the Yakima and Sioux Native American tribes as an honorary member by Chief Edgar Red Cloud. He was given the Indian name Wakinyan Chikala, or “Little Thunder”. Today, Paul lives with his wife in Rapids City, South Dakota, where he continues to write and illustrate.
