Containment Policy George Kennan and the Long Telegram Long term Struggle between Communism & Capitalism Proposed Containment: contain Communism where it is, but will not fight to remove it where already established 1947 Truman Doctrine: “support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by armed minorities or by outside pressures.” Went to countries such as Turkey and Greece. “Domino Theory”

Berlin Blockade/Airlift Remember Germany Divided into 4 zones Berlin also divided into four zones June 1948 - May 1949 USSR cut off supply to West Berlin. U.S. began an airlift to provide the city w/ needed provisions. Berlin
